Trail Description
Wilson Farm Dyke Trail in Port Coquitlam is one of those easy, flat walks you end up coming back to again and again. At about 5 km out-and-back with only 12 m of elevation, it’s more of a relaxed riverside stroll than a hike, and usually takes under an hour. It’s a great option when you want fresh air, open views, and a simple route you don’t have to think too hard about.
The trail follows the dyke with wide, open sightlines to the surrounding fields and distant mountains, giving you that big-sky feel the whole way. Birdlife is a real highlight here; people regularly spot cedar waxwings, belted kingfishers, and different warblers working the river and shrubs. The gravel path keeps things straightforward, so you can focus on the scenery instead of your footing.
Recent walkers note that the Wilson Farm Dyke Trail has no shade, so bring a hat, sunscreen, and water on sunny days, especially from April through October when it’s most popular. The gravel surface holds up well in the rain and doesn’t turn into a mud pit, but it can feel exposed in bad weather. Expect other walkers, runners, and dogs on leash, and do everyone a favour by packing out all waste, especially pet bags. Pay attention to any “No trespassing” signs along the way and use the parallel public route where required, and you’ll have an easy, low-stress outing close to town.
