Trail Description

Gates Park Loop via PoCo Trail is a quick, no-stress walk right in the heart of Port Coquitlam, and yes, the location checks out. At just 3.4 km with barely any elevation, it’s the kind of loop you can squeeze in before work, after dinner, or as a casual stroll with a coffee in hand. Expect an easy 38-minute spin that feels more like a relaxed walk in a city park than a hike.

The loop winds through Gates Park and along the PoCo Trail, with a mix of dirt and gravel paths that stay mostly flat and friendly for all ages. You’ll pass open park space, big fields, and sections near the Coquitlam River, with steady foot traffic from locals, runners, and lots of leashed dogs. It’s not a wild backcountry escape, but it’s a clean, well-used urban green space that’s great for stretching the legs.

Recent visitors mention the trails are in great shape and the park itself is tidy and well looked after, though there have been bear sightings in the area, so stay alert and avoid leaving food out. Because Gates Park Loop via PoCo Trail is so close to town, it stays busy enough that most people feel comfortable walking it solo during daylight hours. You can walk this loop year-round, but it’s especially popular from spring through late summer when the days are longer and the paths are dry.
