Trail Description

The PoCo and Trans Canada Trail Loop in Port Coquitlam is an easy, flat 12.9 km loop that feels more like a long urban nature walk than a backcountry hike. You’re never far from neighbourhoods, sports fields, and roads, but you still get long stretches of trees, river views, and bird life along the way. Most people finish it in around two and a half hours, and the elevation gain is so mild it barely registers.

Walking the PoCo and Trans Canada Trail Loop, you’ll mix paved sections, hard-packed gravel, and some narrower dirt paths closer to the water. The Coquitlam River and Pitt River show up often, with side paths that drop you right down beside the water if you don’t mind things getting a bit bushy. Shade is solid on hot days, and when the leaves are out the route turns into a cool green corridor threading through Port Coquitlam’s suburbs.

Recent hikers agree this loop is easy, not moderate, and the route is generally obvious even where apps don’t line up perfectly. It’s busy and social most of the time, with walkers, runners, cyclists, and plenty of traffic noise, so don’t come here looking for solitude. Aim for April through October for the best foliage and river vibe, start from the trailhead or nearby sports park for easier parking and washrooms, and expect a relaxed, shaded workout more than a wild escape.
