Trail Description
Whonnock Lake Paddle in Maple Ridge is a short, mellow outing that’s all about relaxing on the water, not grinding out elevation. At just 2.4 km with zero real gain and a loop-style route around the lake, it’s an easy paddle that most people wrap up in about 30–40 minutes, leaving lots of time to just float, chat, and enjoy the calm.
Once you launch from the Whonnock Lake boat area, you can follow the shoreline and make a full loop, with views of tree-lined banks, low hills, and the occasional dock or swimmer near the main beach. The water is usually calm, making this a friendly spot for beginners getting used to a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, and a low-stress paddle for more experienced folks who just want a quick spin close to Maple Ridge.
Recent visitors mention it’s straightforward to park right at the boat launch, with easy unloading and loading, so you’re not hauling gear a long way. Summer brings more families and beach traffic, but once you’re a short distance from shore, Whonnock Lake Paddle still feels relaxed and open. Bring a PFD, watch the wind in the afternoons as it can kick up small chop, and aim for early morning or evening for quieter water and easier parking.
