Trail Description

Weasel Loop in Maple Ridge, BC, is a short 3.2 km loop with about 155 m of gain, topping out around 353 m. On paper it looks like an easy half-hour stretch-your-legs outing, but this is actually part of the Blue Mountain Riding Area, a designated off-road motorcycle zone, so it’s very different from a typical quiet forest walk.

The loop itself follows moto singletrack and access routes, so expect packed dirt, ruts, loose rock, and sections chewed up by tires rather than a groomed hiking path. Views are limited, with mostly second-growth forest and utility-style corridors rather than big lookouts, and the main “experience” here is being in an active riding area rather than out in a hiking-focused park.

Current info from riders calls Weasel Loop a fantastic trail for off-road motorcycles, but that’s the key point: this Maple Ridge route is built and maintained for dirt bikes, not foot traffic. High-speed bikes use these narrow trails constantly, visibility is often poor around corners, and there are no real pull-outs for hikers, which makes walking it unsafe and not recommended. If you’re exploring the Blue Mountain Riding Area, treat Weasel Loop as a moto trail only; hikers are much better off choosing one of Maple Ridge’s many dedicated hiking routes with proper signage, safer separation from vehicles, and more rewarding views across the Fraser Valley.
