Trail Description

Viewpoint Lookout via Mike Lake Trail in Maple Ridge is an easy out-and-back walk with a legit payoff for not much effort. At 6.3 km with only about 176 m of gain and a high point around 224 m, it’s more of a relaxed outing than a grind, usually taking around 1 hour 45 minutes at a casual pace. It’s a solid choice for a quick afternoon stretch, especially if you want a mix of forest walking and an open viewpoint.

The route starts out on the Mike Lake Trail, winding through cool, mossy forest with that classic Golden Ears feel. Closer to the viewpoint, the trail joins a hydro corridor with gravel and rocks underfoot, opening up to wider views and big sky. The lookout itself isn’t dramatic alpine terrain, but the valley views are clean, open, and ideal for a snack break, and you might spot mountain bikers or even horseback riders sharing the route.

Recent hikers say the trail is dry and easy-going, with flowers starting to bloom and a “nice afternoon stroll” vibe, but navigation toward Mike Lake can get confusing with some poorly marked junctions. Pay attention near the power lines and don’t blindly follow them, as one branch leads to a dead end; at unsigned splits, the left option is usually the one that continues toward the lookout. Viewpoint Lookout via Mike Lake Trail is generally best from late fall through late fall shoulder seasons, but always check Golden Ears Provincial Park advisories, since road access and parts of Mike Lake Trail can be seasonally closed or temporarily inaccessible.
