Trail Description

Spur I, The Chute, Manor Road, and Canterbury is a solid loop if you want a longer moderate hike in Maple Ridge without the crowds. At 11.7 km with about 490 m of gain and a high point around 582 m, it’s a steady workout rather than a grind, usually taking just under 4 hours. The route mixes forest singletrack with stretches of logging road, so you get a bit of everything in one loop.

The hike starts from Lilley Drive and quickly ties into Blue Mountain Forest Service Road Branch 2 before heading onto Spur I. From there you wind up via sections like Spur Horsepower Hill, The Chute, and Manor Road, then drop back down on Canterbury and a web of local trails like Pristine and Bill and Douglas Excellent Trail. Views open up more as you gain height, and if you push a little off the main loop toward the peak, you’re rewarded with a decent lookout over the Maple Ridge area, though that side trip will bump your distance closer to 15 km and nudge the effort into the harder range.

Right now, plan on getting your feet wet on Spur I, The Chute, Manor Road, and Canterbury, especially in the rainy season. A lot of the route doubles as man-made drainage, so you’re literally walking in shallow creeks with puddles spanning the full trail width and some awkward footing. The logging road sections can feel hot and exposed on sunny days, but the forested stretches stay cool and shady; waterproof shoes, extra socks, and checking the forecast will make this Maple Ridge loop much more enjoyable in any season.
