Trail Description

Spur A, Lake Drive, and Blue Mountain Road in Maple Ridge is a 16.6 km loop that’s really more of a logging road and motorized route than a classic hiking trail. With about 647 m of gain up to roughly 804 m, it’s rated moderate and usually takes around 5 hours, but the experience is dominated by dirt bikes and ATVs, not quiet forest walking.

The route follows wide gravel and dirt roads with long, steady climbs and descents, so you’re mostly on open vehicle tracks rather than singletrack. You’ll get some partial views of the surrounding Maple Ridge hills and cutblocks, plus the odd glimpse toward the Lower Mainland on clear days, but there’s a lot of industrial feel here: powerlines, active roads, and engine noise are all part of the deal.

Recent hikers are clear that Spur A, Lake Drive, and Blue Mountain Road is heavily used by dirt bikes, which means constant traffic, noise, and dust, especially on weekends and dry days. If you still choose to go, treat it like a shared-use resource road: wear bright clothing, keep dogs close, and be ready to step aside for fast-moving machines. This loop is more appealing to folks training for distance on non-technical surfaces or exploring by bike; hikers looking for a quiet Maple Ridge forest trail will likely want to pick another route, especially in peak riding season from spring through fall.
