Trail Description
The Muzz, Manor Road, and Canterbury Loop in Maple Ridge isn’t your typical quiet forest hike. This 9.7 km loop with about 399 m of gain winds through the Blue Mountain Riding Area, a zone primarily built and maintained for dirt bikes, not hikers. On paper it’s a moderate loop to around 541 m, but the real story is how busy and fast the motorized traffic can be.
Walking the Muzz, Manor Road, and Canterbury Loop means sharing narrow, twisting singletrack and wider access roads with off-road motorcycles. The forest itself is classic Maple Ridge second-growth, with sections of mossy ground, mixed conifers, and the occasional peek through the trees, but most people come here for engines, not views. Expect noise, churned-up tread, and a very different vibe than a typical hiking-only trail.
Current advice from local users is straightforward: this Blue Mountain Riding Area is designated for off-road motorcycles only, and hiking is not recommended. ATVs and 4x4s are banned, but dirt bikes move quickly and may not expect people on foot around blind corners. If you’re set on hiking in Maple Ridge, it’s smarter and safer to choose another trail system; save the Muzz, Manor Road, and Canterbury Loop for when you’re on two wheels with a motor and proper protective gear, especially in the busier dry-season months.
