Trail Description
Mike Lake Loop in Maple Ridge sits just inside Golden Ears Provincial Park and is one of those short trails that still feels like a “real” hike. At only 1.9 km with minimal elevation, it’s a quick 30-minute leg-stretcher around the lake, popular for after-work walks, dog laps, and getting kids used to hiking on uneven ground.
The loop circles through classic west coast forest with dense trees, thick roots, and peeks of Mike Lake along the way. You’ll cross a series of small wooden and metal bridges, pass through damp, mossy sections, and finish near the dock, which makes a nice little spot to sit and watch the water before heading home.
Current reports say Mike Lake Loop is easy but rough underfoot: expect roots almost the entire way, some fallen logs, narrow side trails, and sections that turn very muddy outside of mid-summer. A few bridges have missing or slippery planks, so watch your step and leave the stroller in the car. Families do hike it, but navigation can get confusing with side trails, so start from the main trailhead by the lake, download a map, wear waterproof shoes, and aim for drier months like late spring through fall for the least frustration.
