Trail Description
Mike Falls in Maple Ridge, BC is the kind of quick outing you grab when you want an easy walk with an actual payoff at the end. This 3.1 km out-and-back trail is mostly flat, very easy, and usually wrapped up in about 45 minutes, with just enough up-and-down to feel like you left the sidewalk behind. It follows part of the Alouette Valley Trail in Golden Ears Provincial Park and ends at a compact but surprisingly powerful waterfall with a chilly pool that feels amazing on a hot day.
Most of the Mike Falls route is wide, straightforward, and for the most part stroller and kid friendly, though you’ll notice the traffic noise from the nearby road for a good chunk of it. The forest is pleasant rather than dramatic, so the main highlight is the waterfall at the end and the chance to dip your feet or wade in on warm afternoons. The last stretch down to the falls is steeper with loose rock, and there isn’t a single perfect viewpoint, so you’ll likely poke around a bit to find your angle.
Recent hikers describe the trail as super easy and ideal for recovery days, kids, and dogs, but note two short steep sections that make it less accessible than it sounds on paper, especially if it’s wet and muddy. The north side of the road can get overgrown, so most people just stick to the main line shown on apps and watch their footing on the final descent. Expect some mud in rainy weather, bring headphones if road noise bugs you, don’t count on pristine bathrooms, and if you’re driving into Golden Ears, always check current park and seasonal road closure info before you go.
