Trail Description

Loop Trail, Menzies Trail, and Alouette Valley Trail Loop in Maple Ridge is a laid-back forest walk with just enough elevation to feel like a real hike without wiping you out. At 7.1 km with only 151 m of gain and a high point around 278 m, it’s an easy loop that most walkers can finish in under two hours, especially if you keep a steady pace. It’s a good option in Golden Ears when you want a quieter route away from the big viewpoints and crowds.

The loop winds through classic West Coast forest, with long, gentle stretches under tall trees and a calm, shaded feel most of the way. The first quarter is the “spicy” part: rockier and more uphill, then it eases into mostly flat cruising on Menzies and Alouette Valley Trail. Views are mostly forest-focused, but the quiet, wide-open sections and occasional openings keep it from feeling repetitive, and it’s friendly for dogs and patient kids.

Recent hikers report the Loop Trail, Menzies Trail, and Alouette Valley Trail Loop is generally in good shape and mostly dry, with only a few mud puddles and some semi–washed-out sections that are still manageable, even with dogs and toddlers. One warning: there are reports of a blocked section and the app route not always lining up with the actual walkable paths, so download your map and be ready to adjust your line on the ground. Roads into Golden Ears can have seasonal closures and parking can require a pass in busier months, so check BC Parks advisories, go early, and expect a quiet, low-stress forest loop from roughly February through late fall.
