Trail Description

Lookout Trail, Menzies Trail, and Loop Trail in Maple Ridge is a short, easy loop that gives you a solid forest fix without chewing up your whole day. At 3.1 km with about 115 m of gain and a high point around 300 m, it usually takes under an hour, making it a handy option if you’ve only got parking at Alouette South Beach and don’t have time to head up Golden Ears’ bigger routes.

The loop winds through classic Golden Ears forest: tall trees, soft dirt, and a quiet, peaceful vibe once you’re a few minutes in. The “lookout” is really just a bench with a partial peek across the lake, and those water features on the map are mostly small trickles, so this one is more about the walk than big views. Still, it’s a calm, shaded wander with seasonal berries along the way and just enough incline to feel like you went for a hike without working too hard.

Recent hikers report the Lookout Trail, Menzies Trail, and Loop Trail as easy and lovely, but not ideal in heavy rain because sections can turn into a creek and mud is common. Some junctions aren’t perfectly marked, so having a map app handy helps, especially if you’re new to Golden Ears Provincial Park. Access is from the Spirea Nature Trail parking area, which has facilities, and the route is best from spring through fall; go when it’s dry if you want the simplest outing and keep in mind that anyone with mobility issues may find the roots, mud, and uneven ground a bit much.
