Trail Description
Horse Trail Loops in Maple Ridge, British Columbia is a short, easy forest loop that feels surprisingly quiet for being so close to town. At 3.7 km with about 153 m of gain and a top elevation around 173 m, it’s a gentle outing that usually takes just over an hour, with enough up and down to feel like a real walk without being a slog.
The loop winds through the Silver Valley trail network, linking back toward Shoesmith West Trail and passing through classic West Coast forest. Expect soft dirt, tall trees, and a few small creek crossings, with sections that open up just enough to let in some light and views of the surrounding hills. It’s popular with hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers, so keep an eye and ear out as you go.
Recent hikers mention that Horse Trail Loops can be confusing, with multiple junctions and side paths that make it very easy to get lost, so bring a map or GPS app and pay attention at intersections. The trail gets muddy, especially after rain and through fall and winter, so waterproof shoes are a good idea. People are still calling it a refreshing fall walk, and it’s generally good from late winter through late fall, but expect wet sections most of the year and plan a bit of extra time if you’re new to the Maple Ridge trail system.
