Trail Description
Blazing Saddles - O.S.R. in Maple Ridge is a short, easy loop that still gives you a bit of a workout without eating up your whole day. At 2.3 km with about 96 m of gain and a high point around 333 m, it’s the kind of trail you can squeeze in after work or use as a warm-up for bigger hikes in Golden Ears country.
The loop starts with a simple, steady incline through classic Maple Ridge forest, with packed dirt, roots, and that damp coastal air smell most of the year. Once you crest the climb, the route rolls along and then drops back down on a section that’s designed and used as a mountain biking trail, so the corners are banked and the path can feel a bit like a flow track underfoot.
Recent hikers on Blazing Saddles - O.S.R. keep stressing one thing: stay alert for mountain bikers, especially on the second half of the loop. Don’t wear headphones, keep dogs leashed and close, and be ready to step aside quickly since bikes move fast and sightlines can be short. This Maple Ridge loop is generally good year-round, but expect mud and slick roots after rain, and consider going early in the day or on quieter weekdays if you want a more relaxed walk with fewer riders.
