Trail Description

Alouette Lake Paddle in Maple Ridge is an easygoing loop on flat water that still feels like a full adventure. At 11.4 km with no elevation gain, it’s more about timing the wind and boat traffic than fitness, so it’s ideal for newer paddlers who want a longer outing without big stress. Expect about 2 to 2.5 hours on the water if you keep a steady pace and don’t linger at the beaches.

The usual launch is from South Beach or the boat launch in Golden Ears Provincial Park, where you can quickly leave the crowds behind and follow the shoreline. The water is usually calmest close to shore and in the morning, with more chop and wind building toward the middle of Alouette Lake and later in the day. Along the way you’ll pass several small beaches and coves that are great for quick swims, snack breaks, or, if you’re on an overnight, camping at spots like the Narrows.

Recent paddlers on the Alouette Lake Paddle report lovely conditions in the late morning, but much stronger afternoon winds that have flipped canoes and made the return leg a grind, so aim for an early start and hug the shore if it kicks up. Motorboats and jet skis are common on the main lake, especially on weekends, so stay visible, keep your group tight, and consider staying near the creek and beach area if you’re a true beginner. Summer is the prime season thanks to warm water and easy swimming, but always check Golden Ears road and park advisories, and expect campground noise to carry across the water at night.
