Trail Description

Shaggy Mane Trail Loop in Langley, BC is one of those easy 10.6 km walks that locals keep coming back to. It’s mostly flat, gently winding through urban forest and open stretches, and usually clocks in around 2 hours at a relaxed pace. If you’re after a longer, low-effort loop to stretch your legs without a big climb, this one fits the bill.

The loop is wide, well‑maintained, and mostly gravel, with a mix of sun and shade that works in almost any weather. You’ll share the Shaggy Mane Trail Loop with horses, so expect to see riders, plenty of hoof prints, and often some wildlife around the quieter sections. Views are more about tall trees, fields, and that classic Langley countryside feel than big mountain vistas, which makes it great for chatting, running, or just zoning out while you walk.

Recent reports say the trail is still in good shape, but conditions swing between dusty and muddy depending on the season, and there is a lot of horse poop to dodge, especially after busy riding days. This is a true multi‑use horse trail, so dogs should be leashed, and it’s important to call out early and wait for riders to wave you past. In winter or after heavy rain, watch for flooding signs and the odd “trail closed” section, and in snow you may find the gate shut, with people parking on the street. Overall, Shaggy Mane Trail Loop stays a reliable, easy outing in Langley for casual walkers, families, and runners who don’t mind sharing the path with horses.
