Trail Description

Kanaka Creek and Fraser Waterfront is a flat, easy loop along the Fraser River that’s ideal when you want to move your legs without climbing a mountain. The trail is about 3.1 km with only 17 m of elevation gain, usually done in around 36 minutes, and sits just across the water from Langley near McMillan Island in the Fraser Valley. It’s a straightforward dyke walk with big sky, river views, and room to walk, run, or stroll the dog.

The route follows the top of the dyke beside Kanaka Creek and the Fraser, so the experience is all about wide-open views rather than deep forest. You’ll see working river traffic, distant mountains on a clear day, and plenty of bird activity along the water and marshy edges. It’s the kind of loop where you can keep an easy pace, zone out to the sound of the river, and still feel like you got outside for a real walk.

Kanaka Creek and Fraser Waterfront is meticulously maintained, with lots of garbage bins and dog poop bag stations, which makes it popular with local walkers and dog owners. Recent visitors have mentioned mosquitoes, especially in warmer, damp weather, so bring bug spray, and keep in mind that this is still wildlife country; bears have been seen in the area in the past, so stay aware. The loop is accessible most of the year from January through October, and on drizzly days it can feel a bit grey, but the flat gravel and dyke surface hold up well, making it a reliable go-to walk close to Langley and Maple Ridge.
