Trail Description
Fort to Fort Trail in Langley is one of those easy, low-stress routes you go back to again and again. This 7.9 km out-and-back follows the Fraser River between Fort Langley and Derby Reach, with only about 73 m of gentle elevation, so it’s genuinely very easy and usually takes around an hour and a half at a relaxed pace. It’s popular, but for good reason: it’s simple, flat, and a solid choice for families, casual walkers, and anyone easing into longer distances.
On the Fort to Fort Trail you’re mostly on wide gravel paths with a mix of sun and shade, weaving between trees and stretches right along the water. There are a few short sections beside Allard Crescent where you’re closer to the road, but then it settles back into quieter forest and river walking. Views of the Fraser and the mountains open up more toward the Fort Langley end, though some older viewpoints are a bit overgrown now, so expect more of a calm riverside walk than constant big scenery.
Recent hikers report the trail as dry and dusty in hot weather, with only light mud in wetter spells, so regular runners or walking shoes are fine. It’s busy on nice days with walkers, runners, strollers, and lots of dogs, plus cyclists who can sneak up quickly, so keep right and stay alert with earbuds low. Blackberries along the Fort to Fort Trail start ripening in late summer, shade helps on hot days, and it’s open year-round, making it a reliable go-to Langley walk in any season as long as you’re okay with company and a few overgrown viewpoints.
