Trail Description
Derby Reach Regional Park in Langley, BC is the kind of trail you hit when you want an easy, low-commitment walk that still feels like you actually got outside. This 9.2 km loop is very easy, almost completely flat, and usually takes just under 2 hours at a relaxed pace, so it’s ideal for a casual outing, a stretch-your-legs day, or introducing new hikers to the area.
The loop at Derby Reach Regional Park follows the Fraser River for long stretches, with open river views, mountain backdrops on clear days, and mixed forest sections that really shine in the fall with colorful foliage. The elevation gain is only about 70 m, with just two small inclines up and down, so you’re mostly cruising on wide, well-defined paths that work for almost any fitness level, including families and older walkers.
Recent hikers report the trail in good shape, with those minor hills being the only real “effort” along the way. Bugs have been a common complaint in warmer months, so bring spray if you’re walking near the water in spring and summer. Derby Reach Regional Park is open year-round, and many locals prefer it in fall and winter when the bugs die down, the air is crisp, and the river views feel a bit more open and calm.
