Trail Description

DeBoville Slough and Addington Point in Port Coquitlam is one of those flat, easy dyke walks you end up doing way more often than you plan to. At 9.8 km return with only about 40 m of total gain and a high point around 32 m, it’s more of a relaxed wander than a hike, usually taking just under two hours. It’s a simple out-and-back, but the combo of wide-open marsh views and regular wildlife sightings keeps locals coming back year-round.

The trail starts from the parking lot off Cedar Drive, with washrooms and an info board, then follows the DeBoville Slough and McLean Creek all the way out toward Addington Lookout. The path is wide and gravel, easy for strollers and casual walkers, with big sky views over the marshes and fields and the mountains framing the distance when the clouds lift. On clear mornings you’ll catch eagles in the tall cottonwoods, ducks and geese in the water, and sometimes a quiet side detour out to Addington Point for a slightly different angle on the slough.

Recent walkers at DeBoville Slough and Addington Point report a lot of fog, light rain turning to heavy rain at times, and some days with “not much action” beyond ducks and geese, while other mornings have had great horned owls calling back and forth, eagles working on a nest, and even bears and coyotes crossing the dyke. Expect wet conditions in fall and winter, with puddles and low visibility on foggy days, but the flat surface is still easy going if you’ve got a decent rain jacket. Wildlife is hit or miss, so think of it as a peaceful walk first and a wildlife show second, and aim for early mornings from February through October for your best shot at eagles, owls, and sunrise colour.
