Trail Description

The Snug Cove to Cape Roger Curtis Tour on Bowen Island is a full-day grind that rewards you with a complete lap of the island. At 28.8 km with about 822 m of elevation gain, this challenging loop feels more like a proper adventure than a casual spin, and once you’re out of Snug Cove you’ll find long stretches of quiet road and trail with very few people around.

Most of the Snug Cove to Cape Roger Curtis Tour is ideal for strong cyclists who like rolling climbs, fast descents, and big coastal views. You can swing out toward Cowan’s Point for extra distance and a great look back toward Vancouver and the golf course, or keep things shorter by cutting that section. Expect a mix of pavement, gravel, and some rougher bits that keep you on your toes and make the island feel a lot bigger than it looks on the map.

Current reports mention that the last part of this route is hiking with your bike through forest, not riding, so be ready to push or shoulder the bike over uneven trail. The forest section is scenic but slow, so plan extra time, bring plenty of water and food, and don’t trust the “2 hours” estimate unless you’re only doing a small portion. This loop rides best from late spring through early fall when the days are long and the surfaces are dry; in wet weather, the off-road bits get slick and the hike-a-bike at the end can feel like a slog.
