Trail Description
Alexandra Suspension Bridge in Yale, BC is one of those short, easy walks that feels way more dramatic than the stats suggest. It’s only about 1.8 km out and back with around 65 m of gain, and most people finish it in roughly half an hour, but you still get big Fraser Canyon vibes and a cool slice of local history at the old bridge site.
The trail to the Alexandra Suspension Bridge is straightforward and wide, with a gentle grade that most ages and fitness levels can handle. You’ll pass through forest, cross active train tracks near the Fraser River, then step out onto the long, steel-grated suspension bridge with views straight down to the water and along the canyon, plus the bonus of trains rumbling by if your timing lines up.
The walk itself is easy, but the return is a steady uphill that can feel warm on hot days, and it can get muddy and slippery near the river. The bridge deck is not dog-friendly at all because of the wide metal grates, so plan to keep dogs off the span unless you can fully carry them, watch for trains at the tracks, aim to park on the west side for the less-steep access, and be prepared for a basic, not-so-clean washroom.
