Trail Description
Village Loop in Harrison is a short, easy 3.5 km loop that feels more like a mellow valley tour than a hardcore mountain hike. With only 104 m of gain and a high point around 1000 m, it’s a relaxed outing that usually takes much less than the posted 3 hours if you keep a steady pace. It’s popular with newer hikers, families, and folks looking to stretch their legs without committing to a big climb.
The Village Loop winds on a wide, groomed path through forest, past open sections, and near local roads, so you’re never far from a sense of civilization. You’ll get a mix of trees, creek-side stretches, and some surprisingly scenic spots, but you do spend noticeable time beside or even along roads, so don’t expect deep backcountry vibes. It’s an easy way to get a feel for the Harrison valley and surrounding terrain without much effort.
Recent hikers report the trail is generally well maintained, with no bears spotted so far this season, but dogs can still get spooked by wildlife in the woods. Winter and early spring bring a mix of dumping snow, wet slush, and long gravel road sections, so hiking boots are better than snowshoes once things start melting. Expect lingering snow into April, watch for icy or slushy hills, and budget extra time for the chaotic parking lot, which has become a bit of a free-for-all when it’s busy.
