Trail Description

Kilby Loop in Harrison Mills is a short, super mellow walk that’s more about river views and fresh air than big effort. At just 4 km with barely any elevation gain, it’s a very easy loop that most people finish in under an hour, making it a nice add-on to a visit to Kilby Historic Site or a relaxed day along the Harrison River.

The best part of Kilby Loop is the stretch along the dike and beach, where you get wide-open views of the Harrison River and surrounding mountains. The trail itself is well groomed, and it’s worth ducking through the trees to the beach whenever you spot an opening. Fall colours can be especially good here, and on a clear day the light on the water makes the whole walk feel surprisingly scenic for such a flat route.

Current reviews are pretty honest: about half the loop follows a quiet paved road, which some people find a bit boring, so many locals just out-and-back the dike and beach section instead. The beach is usually clean, the port-a-potties are maintained, and in warmer months people like to finish by dipping their feet in the river, though the water stays cold well into spring. Kilby Loop in Harrison Mills is walkable year-round, but it’s at its nicest in fall or on a clear winter or spring day; just bring decent shoes, keep dogs leashed, and don’t be afraid to ignore the full loop and stick to the riverside if you’re here for views over mileage.
