Trail Description
Field Peak near Harrison, British Columbia is one of those routes that lets you know right away it’s not messing around. At 14.6 km with about 1239 m of climbing to roughly 1528 m, this out-and-back is rated difficult for good reason. It’s a serious workout with steep sections, rough footing, and a big payoff up high if you’re prepared for it.
The hike up Field Peak starts in the trees and grinds steadily upward, with roots, rocks, and rough patches keeping you focused on every step. As you gain elevation, gaps in the forest start to open up views toward Harrison Lake and the surrounding Fraser Valley peaks, with more and more scenery as you climb. The higher you go, the more you feel the remoteness, with very few other hikers and a strong “backcountry” vibe despite being relatively close to Harrison.
Recent feedback calls the trail rough, so expect eroded sections, loose dirt, and some muddy or slick spots depending on recent weather. Good boots, poles, and plenty of water are pretty much mandatory, and you’ll want to plan extra time despite the oddly low “average time” you might see listed; most hikers will be out there for several hours, not under an hour. Field Peak is best tackled in late spring through fall when snow has melted off the upper slopes, and it’s smart to check recent reports, start early, and be ready to turn around if conditions feel sketchy higher up.
