Trail Description
Klein Lake and North Lake MTB Loop sits just inland from Earls Cove near Egmont, linking a chain of quiet lakes by a mix of trail and forest service roads. At 10.1 km with about 284 m of gain and a max elevation around 215 m, it’s an easy loop on paper, but the time estimate reflects a slower pace on rougher surfaces and road sections. It’s a low-traffic route that feels remote, better suited to relaxed exploring than chasing a fast finish.
The loop usually starts with a short, steeper climb on double track up toward North Lake, then eases into rolling, mostly level road riding or walking between North Lake, Waugh Lake, and Klein Lake. Expect long stretches of gravel service road, a bit of old logging road where you follow flagging or tree markers, and only a small portion that feels like true singletrack. The payoff is in the lakeside sections and campground areas, where it opens up to water views and the chance to spot wildlife like elk.
Current reports are clear: a big chunk of the official Klein Lake and North Lake MTB Loop runs along Egmont Road, which is narrow, curvy, and has no real shoulder, so many locals now skip that part and do an out-and-back along the lakes instead. Traffic isn’t constant, but sightlines are limited, so if you do the full loop, wear high-visibility gear and stay alert. Conditions are generally good spring through fall, with the service roads draining fairly well, but expect some mud and puddles after heavy rain and plan extra time for navigation where the route follows older logging roads.
