Trail Description

Varley Trail Loop in North Vancouver is a short, low-effort forest escape that feels way farther from the city than it is. At just 4.5 km with about 94 m of gain and a max elevation around 216 m, it’s more of a relaxed walk than a workout, usually done in just over an hour. Locals hit this loop when they want an easy, shaded wander with creek views, dog-friendly vibes, and quick access from Lynn Headwaters and Lynn Canyon.

The Varley Trail Loop winds along the creek under tall trees, with soft light, roots underfoot, and the sound of water most of the way. You’ll pass mossy rocks, small pools, and a few sneaky spots where you can dip your feet or let the dog splash around, then warm up on sun-baked rock. The grade is gentle, the path is mostly wide and clear, and it feels like an “enchanted forest” stroll more than a serious hike, especially in the evening when it’s quieter.

Right now, expect an easy, very accessible loop, but always double check if any bridges are closed, as that can temporarily turn this into more of an out-and-back. Parking around Lynn Headwaters and Lynn Canyon can fill fast by late morning in spring and summer, so go early or later in the day, and bring bug spray for mosquitoes in the late afternoon. The Varley Trail Loop is open year-round, but in winter it can get icy or slushy in spots, so wear decent footwear; dogs are welcome, and while some sections feel leash-optional, it’s smart to leash up near busy viewpoints and narrow stretches.
