Trail Description

Twin Bridges and Homestead Trail Loop in North Vancouver is one of those routes that sits between a casual walk and a real hike. It’s a 4.5 km loop with about 119 m of gain, mostly on smooth, wide gravel, and usually takes just over an hour at a normal pace. Easy on paper, but the short, steep pulls on Homestead surprise a lot of people, especially if you’re expecting a flat riverside stroll.

The loop links the Twin Bridges area of the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve with Homestead Trail, so you get a mix of forest, river access, and a couple of small features like the little “cave” tunnel and side paths down to the water. Views are more about classic North Shore forest and the Seymour River than big mountain vistas, and some locals find it a bit bland on foot, but it works well as a quick cardio loop or a mellow add‑on to a longer ride or run. If you like exploring, keep an eye out for the short spur to the river and the small swimming elbow some people use on hot days.

Right now, expect a very well‑maintained, wide gravel path with some sections washed out or detoured, especially where it links toward the Baden Powell, which has had closures. Homestead is a steady grind, so many hikers and runners prefer doing it first, then cruising back via Twin Bridges; if you’re biking, you must ride counterclockwise, and many riders still end up pushing the steepest bit. This loop is best in snow‑free months or as a short winter walk when it’s just wet, not icy, since the smooth gravel offers poor grip in snow and ice. As always in North Vancouver, pack out your garbage, expect wildlife, and if you want more variety and scenery, Lynn Canyon and other nearby routes are stronger options.
