Trail Description
Richard Juryn Trail Loop in North Vancouver is a short, easy option inside the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, popular with both hikers and mountain bikers. The loop is about 4 km with only 106 m of gain, topping out around 231 m, so it’s more of a casual outing than a big workout, usually wrapped up in about an hour. It’s a good introduction to the area, but how much you enjoy it really depends on whether you’re on two wheels or two feet.
The loop mixes proper forest singletrack with a long gravel access road, and that’s the key thing to know. On a mountain bike, the climb up the road is straightforward and the rolling forest sections of the Richard Juryn Trail feel like a gentle step up into moderate terrain without anything technical or scary. On foot, that same gravel road stretch can feel drawn out and pretty bland compared to other North Vancouver trails, with limited viewpoints and mostly filtered glimpses of the surrounding mountains.
Current feedback from locals is clear: if you’re hiking, the Richard Juryn Trail itself is nice, but this exact loop is more exciting on a bike than on foot. Hikers looking for a better walking experience should check the Diamond and Richard Juryn Trail Loop on AllTrails, which keeps you in the forest and on more engaging paths. Trails here are usually good from February through November, but always check the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve updates for any seasonal road closures to the trailhead, and remember this is mixed-use, so expect and respect bike traffic.
