Trail Description

Rice Lake Loop in North Vancouver is one of those quick, low-effort walks that still feels like you’ve escaped the city. This 2.9 km loop has only about 30 m of elevation gain, tops out around 214 m, and usually takes around 37 minutes, so it’s very easy and beginner friendly. It’s a go-to spot for families, casual walkers, and anyone wanting a calm forest and lake fix without committing to a big hike.

The trail circles Rice Lake on a wide, hard-packed gravel path through classic North Shore forest, with plenty of shade and filtered views of the water as you go. There are lots of little side paths to viewpoints and spots to sit, watch anglers try their luck, or grab a few photos of the calm water. The loop works well for a relaxed stroll, a quick trail run, or tacking on extra distance using nearby connector trails if you want to make it more of a workout.

Recent visitors describe Rice Lake Loop as stroller-friendly, kid-friendly, and even manageable with a newborn in a carrier, though there are a few roots and light inclines to keep you on your toes. The trail is generally well marked and maintained, but it can get muddy and puddly after rain, so waterproof shoes help, and it may be a bit slippery in winter conditions. Parking can be limited and the main lot is occasionally closed or busy, so be ready to walk a bit from farther parking, and always check current access info for the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve before you go.
