Trail Description

Mystery Falls Loop in North Vancouver is one of those classic Seymour forest hikes that feels bigger than its stats. At 10.5 km with about 460 m of gain, it’s a true moderate loop: enough climbing to get your heart going, but still very doable for the average hiker in around three and a half hours. The waterfall itself is small and seasonal, so go for the full forest experience more than a single viewpoint.

The route links Baden Powell, Bridle, and a web of other trails, so expect a mix of smooth gravel, rooty sections, short scrambles, and some rocky creekbed walking at the start. The climb up the Baden Powell “Seymour Grind” is the stiffest part, but you’re rewarded with deep green moss, big trees, foggy pockets on wet days, and the occasional owl or other wildlife if you’re lucky. There are lots of trail crossings and offshoots, so keep a navigation app handy and stay alert for mountain bikers on the shared-use sections.

Recent hikers report the trail in generally good shape, with mud after rain, some creek walking, and slick rocks on the early uphill stretch. In late fall and winter, hiking poles are smart for the steeper, icy bits, and sturdy boots make the mud and wet roots a non-issue. Mystery Falls itself can be completely dry in summer and early fall, with better flow after a solid stretch of rain from roughly November through early spring. Year-round, the draw of Mystery Falls Loop is the forest atmosphere, not a huge waterfall, so plan your expectations, check current conditions for the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, and you’ll have a solid North Vancouver outing.
