Trail Description
Mystery Creek and Hyannis Loop in North Vancouver is one of those quick forest escapes that still feels like a real hike. At 3.7 km with about 130 m of gain, it’s rated easy, but most locals would call it easy-to-moderate thanks to a few short, punchy inclines. It usually takes around an hour, which makes it a solid after-work or “first hike of the season” option.
The loop winds through classic North Vancouver forest: tall trees, soft light, and that constant sound of water nearby. Sections along Mystery Creek give you lively cascades and a more rugged feel, with rocks and roots underfoot, while the Hyannis side is smoother and more relaxed. There are no big viewpoints, but the atmosphere is great, especially on overcast or misty days when the forest feels calm and quiet.
Recent hikers say the Mystery Creek and Hyannis Loop is well maintained and totally fine in moderate rain, though you should expect mud, puddles, and slippery roots, so proper walking or hiking shoes are a must. Parts of the route have a small closure with a signed detour in place until the end of December, and some sections are shared with mountain bikes, so stay alert as a few riders come through fast. The trail is dog friendly, with off-leash stretches nearby, and it’s hikeable year-round, but in the wetter months you’ll want a waterproof layer and maybe a dry change of socks waiting in the car.
