Trail Description
Mosquito Creek Cascades in North Vancouver is a short, punchy out-and-back that delivers more action than you’d expect from a 1.8 km trail. You gain about 135 m as you work up the creek to around 395 m elevation, so it’s rated moderate and usually takes under an hour, but the rough bits and ropes make it feel like a real adventure. It’s a solid choice if you want a quick hit of West Coast forest without committing to a half-day grind.
The route hugs Mosquito Creek almost the whole way, so you’re walking with the sound of moving water from start to finish. The creek is more energetic up here than down in the lower Mosquito Creek Park, with a series of lively cascades that grow in size as you climb toward the small man-made waterfall at the top. Expect roots, rocks, a bit of hands-on scrambling, and the odd pause to figure out where the trail goes next.
Recent hikers report some rope-assisted sections and a final stretch taped off in red near the end, so don’t push past closures and treat this as an out-and-back to just before the tape. The Mosquito Creek Cascades trail is not perfectly marked; you might do a bit of backtracking, but you’ll generally pick up the path again, and some people extend the outing by linking briefly with the Baden-Powell Trail. Signs can make it sound more dangerous than it feels for a confident hiker, but expect uneven footing, bring decent shoes, and plan for wet, slick conditions most of the year in this shady North Vancouver creek valley.
