Trail Description

Millstream Trail in West Vancouver is a quick, low-commitment outing when you just want an easy hour in the trees. The route is about 3.9 km out-and-back with only 93 m of gain, so it’s classed as very easy, and that lines up with what people report. Think more mellow dog walk than big Cypress Mountain hike, with a mix of creekside sections and short, slightly rougher bits to keep it interesting.

The first stretch of Millstream Trail is mostly flat, smooth, and relaxed, with a scenic feel for the first 20 minutes or so as you follow the creek. After the bridge over the East Branch of McDonald Creek, the terrain changes a bit with a short technical section, some loose rock, and then packed dirt again. Views are limited; this is more about stretching your legs in the forest than chasing panoramas, unless you extend your day toward High View Lookout or link into nearby trails like Skyline or Lower Brewis.

Right now, you’ll see closure signs near the West Branch of McDonald Creek due to a landslide, but the current Millstream Trail route stops before that point, so you’re fine if you stick to the mapped out-and-back. Expect some overgrown and muddy sections after wet weather, and don’t rely on signage if you plan to explore side trails like Forks, which can be hard to find. Millstream Trail is open year-round and usually snow-free at lower elevations, making it a solid beginner-friendly option or a quick afternoon walk in West Vancouver, especially for dog walkers who don’t need a big viewpoint payoff.
