Trail Description

Maplewood Flats Conservation Area Loop in North Vancouver is one of those rare easy walks that still feels like you’ve slipped out of the city. This 4 km loop is flat, quiet, and usually takes under an hour, with almost no elevation change, so it’s more of a relaxed nature stroll than a hike. Managed by the Wild Bird Trust of BC, it’s especially popular with birders and locals looking for a calm reset by the water.

The loop winds through a mix of coastal forest, wetlands, and shoreline views of Burrard Inlet, with plenty of side paths leading to viewpoints and bird blinds. You’ll walk on wide, well-marked gravel trails, passing through habitat used by ducks, herons, chickadees, and seasonal migrants, so bring binoculars if you have them. Early mornings are especially peaceful at Maplewood Flats, with soft light over the water and a quiet mix of trees and sea around you.

Right now, reviewers describe the Maplewood Flats Conservation Area Loop as very easy, well maintained, and ideal for a slow, observant walk rather than a workout. The route is stroller and wheelchair friendly, but note that running, cycling, and dogs are not allowed to protect wildlife. Parking can be limited and fills up quickly on nice days, so aim for earlier in the day; the loop is open year-round and handles rain well, though it can feel damp and cool in winter, so dress for the weather and bring a camera for the birds.
