Trail Description

Main Trail and Cypress Resort Road Loop in West Vancouver is a straightforward forest walk that’s ideal when you want something short, easy, and close to the city. At about 5 km with 142 m of gain and a high point around 872 m, it feels more like a relaxed outing than a workout, usually done in around an hour and a half.

The first half along Spar Tree and Main Trail is the highlight, winding through classic North Shore forest with big trees, moss, and a scattering of old cabins that kids in particular get a kick out of. The loop closes on Cypress Resort Road, which is really just an old gravel service road with limited views and not much going on, so the “wow” factor drops off on the way back.

Right now, hikers describe the Main Trail and Cypress Resort Road Loop as simple, non-technical, and easy to follow, even when finishing in the dark with a headlamp. If you want more of a real hike, many locals extend past the loop to Blue Gentian Lake and on to Brothers Creek, where the trail gets rougher and more interesting. Expect best conditions from late spring through fall; in shoulder seasons and winter, check Cypress Mountain conditions, bring proper footwear, and keep dogs leashed as required.
