Trail Description
Lynn Peak Route in North Vancouver is a grindy, no-nonsense climb that’s more about fitness than big summit views. The 12.2 km out-and-back trail gains around 1050 metres, so you’re climbing almost the whole way and most hikers take 4–6 hours, not the “average” 3:44. If you want a quiet, challenging workout close to the city, Lynn Peak delivers, but go in knowing the payoff is limited to one main lookout, not a grand summit panorama.
The route starts from Lynn Headwaters and quickly turns into a rocky staircase of baseball to bowling-ball sized stones, with roots thrown in for fun. This rough section makes up roughly the first third of the Lynn Peak Route and is slow on the descent, so poles and solid boots help a lot. Around three-quarters of the way up you hit the key viewpoint with wide views over Vancouver on a clear day, then the trail continues along Lynn Ridge to South Lynn Peak and Lynn Peak proper, both mostly treed bumps with only small peekaboo views through the forest.
Recent hikers report dry ground lower down, some snow and ice lingering near the top in colder months, and a bear warning in the area, so keep dogs leashed and stay alert. Flagging is consistent and the trail is easy to follow, but it feels more remote past the main lookout and can get icy enough for spikes in shoulder season. This one is tiring, rocky, and often rated “great workout, mediocre views,” so start early, budget more time than you think, and treat the main lookout as the real destination unless you’re peak-bagging or training for bigger climbs.
