Trail Description
Lynn Lake Trail in North Vancouver is a long, grindy out-and-back that’s more about the journey than a big finish. At 21.7 km with 812 m of gain and a max altitude around 799 m, it’s rated challenging for good reason and usually takes around 6 hours and 40 minutes. If you want a quieter route in Lynn Headwaters with a solid workout and don’t mind a modest payoff, this one fits the bill.
The first part of Lynn Lake Trail follows the classic Lynn Headwaters approach, on a well-used path with steady elevation and plenty of typical North Shore forest: roots, rocks, and damp sections. Up to Narvan Falls the trail is clear, well-marked, and straightforward, with the falls being the main highlight. Beyond that, things get rougher and more rugged, with sections that blur into creekbed and feel more like a route than a groomed trail.
Recent hikers report that after Narvan Falls the maintenance drops off and you should expect to walk right in the creek in spots, especially in wetter periods. The lake itself is small, often with low water levels, and doesn’t offer dramatic views, so go in knowing the “reward” is more about remoteness than scenery. Aim for June through October for safer conditions, check Metro Vancouver’s Lynn Headwaters seasonal closure info before you go, and bring solid footwear, trekking poles, and a tolerance for getting your feet wet if you’re pushing all the way to Lynn Lake.
