Trail Description

Lower Expresso MTB Trail Loop in North Vancouver sits right in the heart of classic North Shore riding terrain, and it absolutely feels like it. At just 3.2 km with about 164 m of gain and a top elevation around 477 m, it’s short, punchy, and usually takes under an hour, but the real story here is the bikes. This is primarily a downhill mountain biking trail, and large sections of Lower Expresso are officially bike-only, so hikers should treat this loop as secondary and be ready to yield or rethink the plan.

The loop winds through dense forest, rolling along smooth dirt, berms, and well-built features that riders rave about. Jumps and corners are shaped and maintained to a very high standard, with ride-around options for most features, so it’s a great stepping stone for newer North Vancouver riders looking to try a proper North Shore flow trail without committing to anything extreme. Views are mostly forested rather than wide open, so the appeal is the feel of the trail and the flow, not big vistas.

Recent reports are consistent: Lower Expresso MTB Trail Loop is busy, full of bikes and dogs, and the web of nearby trails can get confusing, with forks and junctions that make it easy to drift off route. Some sections are not clearly marked, and parts of the BP connector are in rough shape, so having a GPS map loaded is smart. If you’re hiking, know that some downhill bike sections do not allow foot traffic and riders may be very direct about that; for a calmer walk, hit this area on a quiet weekday morning in the drier months and always stay alert, step aside early, and let gravity riders do their thing.
