Trail Description

Kloochman Park Overlook Trail in West Vancouver is short on distance but big on exposure. This 1 km out-and-back may be rated easy on paper, with only about 43 m of gain and a high point around 66 m, but recent hikers are clear: it’s not a casual stroll and demands respect, especially when the ground is wet.

The trail drops quickly into a coastal forest, with roots, rocks, and a rough, sometimes muddy path underfoot. A few minutes in, you traverse the top of a roughly 15 m cliff before reaching stairs that descend the same face, and the ocean viewpoints at the end are all on top of sheer bluffs dropping straight into the water. Views stretch across Howe Sound and toward the coastal mountains, giving Kloochman Park Overlook Trail a wild, remote feel despite being tucked into a quiet corner of West Vancouver.

Current reports stress that this is not the place for young kids or anyone who tends to wander near edges, as there are no warning signs or railings along the cliffs. The trail is usually damp, even in summer, so wear proper footwear with good grip and take your time on the technical sections. Kloochman Park is open year-round and usually very quiet, but parking is minimal near the trailhead, so plan to arrive with a backup parking idea and treat this as a short but serious hike rather than a casual park walk.
