Trail Description
Hastings Creek Trail in North Vancouver is a short, super mellow out-and-back route that usually feels more like a forest stroll than a serious hike, but it’s currently a different story. The 2.6 km trail with just 68 m of elevation gain is officially closed due to fallen trees, degraded walkways, and earlier slope issues, so expect closures and detours rather than an easy cruise along the creek.
On a normal day, Hastings Creek Trail follows the water through classic North Vancouver second-growth forest, with rolling terrain, roots, and real dirt singletrack instead of manicured park paths. The trail climbs gently to around 129 m, with a mid-route stair section that used to be the main climb; this has been closed off for some time due to unstable slopes, and locals have been using a short loop to bypass it and still complete the hike.
Right now, the City has the Hastings Creek Trail marked as closed, and recent reports mention damaged walkways, fallen trees, and an indefinite closure related to landslide risk. Some people still access bits of the route using the old bypass around the stairs, but you should expect taped-off sections, rough footing, and the possibility of fines if you ignore closure signs. If you’re set on exploring North Vancouver’s trails, it’s smarter to choose another nearby creek route until the city repairs the infrastructure and officially reopens Hastings Creek Trail.
