Trail Description
Goldie and Flower Lake Loop via Perimeter Trail is a great little escape off Mt Seymour in North Vancouver, winding through classic North Shore forest to two quiet lakes. At 5.6 km with about 229 m of gain, it’s on the easier side fitness-wise, but the terrain keeps it interesting with roots, rocks, and a few short, punchy climbs. It usually takes around 1 hour 45 minutes, and you’ll often have long stretches with hardly anyone else around, especially on cloudy or weekday mornings.
The loop starts from near the Deep Cove Lookout area and climbs steadily through dense trees, crossing small creeks on solid, well‑maintained bridges. The Perimeter Trail section feels a bit wilder and less travelled, with a more natural, winding path that can be confusing if you’re not paying attention to markers. Around Goldie and Flower Lake you get open sections, reflections on calm days, and on foggy or rainy ones it has that moody North Vancouver vibe, with the lakes feeling surprisingly remote given how short the hike is.
Recent hikers report muddy sections, especially where the trail levels out around the lakes, plus slippery roots after rain, so waterproof boots are a smart call and gaiters are nice but optional. In bug season, bring spray; some days they’re just annoying, other days more bitey. In winter and early spring, expect snow and ice from about a quarter of the way up, with deeper snow near the lakes where light traction or microspikes can help, and Mt Seymour staff may check parking access. The loop is dog‑friendly and many people bring their pups, but keep them close, as the trail can be overgrown in spots, easy to drift off, and there have been occasional bear sightings in the area.
