Trail Description
Brothers Creek Trail in West Vancouver is one of those North Shore hikes that feels wild but is still totally doable in a morning. This 6.3 km out-and-back climbs about 431 m up to around 819 m, so it’s a steady moderate workout without any brutal grinds. Expect about two and a half hours on the go, with creek noise and deep forest pretty much the whole way.
The route is well signed on the way up and follows Brothers Creek for most of the trail, with lots of viewpoints and small waterfalls along the way. The elevation gain is very consistent, but the terrain is rough in spots: lots of roots, rocky sections near Blue Gentian Lake, and a generally technical feel that keeps your brain as busy as your legs. The forest is dense, shaded, and very green thanks to the moist creek environment, and the small lake at the end is a quiet, simple payoff rather than a big open viewpoint.
Current conditions on Brothers Creek Trail are solid, but this is not a casual sneaker walk. Hiking boots are strongly recommended for the rooty, uneven sections and the rocky bits near the lake, and downloading a map is smart, especially for the descent where the route can feel less obvious. The trail is a designated off-leash area for dogs, and there’s easy neighborhood parking along Millstream Road, though there’s no big formal trailhead sign. Shaded forest makes this a great choice on hot days, and the trail usually runs best from late spring through fall, with early summer offering the most impressive creek flow.
