Trail Description

Seymour Valley Trailway and Spur 4 Loop in North Vancouver is a long, fast-moving ride through the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, built far more for bikes than for boots. At 28.5 km with about 459 m of gain, it’s a solid, steady effort rather than a brutal climb, and most riders call it challenging more for the distance than the elevation. If you’re after a smooth, scenic gravel and pavement combo with minimal traffic and a “just keep rolling” vibe, this loop delivers.

The route links the paved Seymour Valley Trailway with Spur 4, Fisherman’s Trail, and connector roads for a full circuit through the forest and along the river. About 10 km are paved to the Seymour dam, with easy spinning and big valley views, then it switches to mostly smooth gravel with some short steeper bits, drain dips, and one washed-out section where you’ll likely hop off and push. Many locals ride it counterclockwise so the paved Seymour Trailway becomes a relaxed cruise back, and some add quick side trips to Lost Lake, Seymour Lake, or the marsh for extra scenery and a snack break.

Right now, recent riders say Seymour Valley Trailway and Spur 4 Loop is in good shape for gravel or touring bikes, but too long and road-like to be a rewarding hike. Go with tires that handle gravel and rougher patches; skinny road tires are a bad idea, especially on Fisherman’s Trail and Spur 4. The loop is rideable most of the year, though winter can bring wet, chilly conditions and occasional access changes, so check the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve updates before you go and plan extra time for photo stops at the dam and lakes.
