Trail Description

Seymour Canyon Loop in North Vancouver is a solid choice if you want a low-commitment hike with a bit of a workout and some classic river and canyon views. The loop is about 7.4 km with 203 m of gain, usually done in around two hours, and rated easy overall, though it has a couple of short, steeper sections that will get your heart rate up. It’s a mix of relaxed riverside strolling and stair climbing, with enough variety to keep things interesting without feeling technical.

The route winds through the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, with long stretches of very groomed, wide paths shared with bikes, then tighter, more traditional trail as you climb. Highlights on the Seymour Canyon Loop include the Seymour River Suspension Bridge with its nice canyon views and the feel of being tucked into a lush, green corridor almost the entire way. Expect a quiet, forested vibe in the morning, with the sound of the river, a few viewpoints over the canyon, and the option to scramble down for a quick look or a dip in the cold water if you’re brave.

Recent hikers report the trail as snow-free and in good shape, but note that the lower bridge is currently closed, so follow posted signs and stick to the main, signed route to avoid older side trails that turn into scrambles. The stairs near the top are where you’ll feel the “workout,” so take your time and bring water, especially on warmer days. The Seymour Canyon Loop is hikeable year-round, but expect more bikes and people on dry weekends; go early if you want a quieter experience, and bring a small towel or change of clothes if that cold plunge in the stream is on your list.
