Trail Description
Mount Seymour in North Vancouver is a classic North Shore grind with a big payoff. This 8.2 km out-and-back gains about 564 m and tops out around 1,441 m, so expect a steady effort and some scrambling rather than a casual stroll. Locals treat it as a repeat favourite for the three peaks, huge views, and quick access from the city.
The Mount Seymour trail starts from the ski area and heads straight into rocks, roots, and boulders, with short steep pushes broken up by viewpoints like Brockton Point, Pump Peak, and Tim Jones before the main summit. On clear days you get wide views over Vancouver, the Gulf Islands, and the Coast Mountains, with plenty of spots to stop and lose track of time. The route is rocky almost the entire way, with sections of running water across the trail and some light scrambling, especially between the second peak and the true summit.
Recent reports say the trail is often wet, with streams, mud, and slick rock, and in shoulder season it turns icy and snow-packed after Pump Peak. Microspikes, poles, and waterproof boots make a big difference once you’re past Tim Jones, and layers are key since it can be windy and much colder up high. The route is mostly well used but not always perfectly marked, with a few side paths and some confusing sections, so download a map, start early to beat the parking rush and crowds, watch for bears and bugs in warmer months, and treat Mount Seymour as a serious mountain hike, especially once winter conditions set in.
