Trail Description
Lower Lynn Loop Trail in North Vancouver is a classic Lynn Headwaters walk: close to the city, easy to follow, and a solid little workout without feeling intense. The loop is about 5.3 km with 184 m of gain, usually done in around 1.5 hours, and stays low at roughly 363 m, so it’s a good option most of the year. You won’t get big mountain vistas here, but you do get that deep, green North Shore forest and steady river noise in the background.
Most people hike the Lower Lynn Loop counterclockwise to get the steeper, rooty section done first, then cruise out on the wide gravel path beside Lynn Creek. Expect rocks, roots, short stair sections, and a few small streams and mushrooms in the wetter months, plus some nice spots to duck down and check out the water near the end. The trail is well signed and well maintained, and you’re likely to see runners, families, dogs on leash, and the odd bit of wildlife like owls or snakes if you’re paying attention.
Recent reports say the trail is in good shape, with surfaces ranging from dry and grippy to damp with a few puddles, but rarely a mud slog thanks to the gravel lower section. Good footwear is important because of the roots, and trekking poles help if you’re doing the full loop. Paid parking runs at the main Lynn Headwaters lots from April 1 to Sept 30, while Rice Lake parking is free but adds distance via the connector trail, and hitting Lower Lynn Loop Trail early in the day makes parking and crowds much easier to deal with.
