Trail Description

Cleveland Dam and Capilano Lake Lookout in North Vancouver is one of those quick walks that feels way bigger than it is. At just 2.6 km with about 70 m of gain, it’s an easy out-and-back that most people finish in under an hour, but you still get serious “wow” value from the dam and the lake views.

The trail follows the Cleveland Dam East Service Road, a wide gravel path that’s flat, smooth, and straightforward. You’ll walk through a shaded forest corridor, then pop out to viewpoints over the dam, Capilano Lake, and the surrounding North Shore mountains. It’s a relaxed route that works well for families, strollers, and anyone wanting a low-effort walk with high-impact scenery.

Recent visitors keep calling this an amazing morning walk with beautiful views, and that’s really the sweet spot here: go early for calm water and softer light over Capilano Lake. The trail is open year-round and usually stays in good shape, but expect it to be busy on weekends and sunny days, since it’s one of the more accessible walks in North Vancouver. Dogs are allowed on leash, parking is close to the start, and this makes a great quick stop before or after exploring other Capilano and Grouse Mountain area trails.
