Trail Description

Blair Range Loop via Perimeter Trail in North Vancouver is a short, easy loop that’s more about stretching the legs than chasing big views. At 3.2 km with only 136 m of gain and a max altitude around 218 m, it’s an “OK but not amazing” kind of hike that works well for locals, dog walkers, and beginner mountain bikers. If you’re trying to tick off every North Shore trail or just want a quick morning walk, it does the job.

The nicest section is the northern part along the Bridle Trail, where you get a more classic North Vancouver feel with rolling singletrack and decent forest. Once you hit the Blair Range and McCartney Creekside Trails, the scenery drops a notch: this is the old Blair Rifle Range, so expect scrubby, spindly trees and open, somewhat beat-up terrain rather than lush forest or viewpoints. Still, the network of paths lets you mix it up with options like McCartney Trail Loop or Sticks and Stones, and there’s plenty of birdsong if you slow down and listen.

Current reports say the Blair Range section turns into more of a shallow creek than a trail in wet seasons, so in December or after rain, assume mud and standing water and bring waterproof shoes. Dogs love it, there’s lots of water around for them, and the grade is so gentle that managing multiple pups is straightforward. The loop is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers, so stay aware on the mixed-use stretches, aim for quieter times if you want less traffic, and know that this one is more about easy movement than a standout North Vancouver hiking experience.
